Camp Beacon is Kentucky’s first summer camp designed for and with LGBTQ+ youth. Teens will enjoy a traditional summer camp experience in a welcoming, inclusive environment with their peers.

Our camp is open to LGBTQ+ identifying youth between the ages of 13-17 residing in Kentucky. We strive to make camp accessible and neuroinclusive. Please discuss as part of the application process how we can best support your camper.

What Kind Of Activities Are Available For Campers?
What Kind Of Activities Are Available For Campers?
Our camp provides outdoor and indoor activities typical of any summer camp. We also have special guests and sessions on a variety of topics such as creative writing, fine arts, outdoor survival skills, and social-emotional wellness. We practice challenge by choice and offer alternative activities, but your teen needs to be comfortable spending a lot of their time outdoors. A sensory room is available for neurodiverse campers to use as needed. Both extroverted activities such as karoke and a dance are offered as well as quieter ones such as star gazing and board games. Camp offers a gender-affirming clothing closet and LGBTQ+ library with a range of Middle Grade-Young Adult genres.

We have an amazing staff on-site for 24/7 assistance. All Camp staff and workshop leaders will have undergone a background check prior to camp. Our staff bring a variety of experience in youth leadership, nursing, mental health, K-12 and higher education, environmental education, fine arts, and program management.

Our camp is located in Central Kentucy. The exact location is disclosed post-registration for the privacy and safety of campers and staff. Campers have attended from all over the state!

Camp is offered at no cost to families except for a $25 registration fee. We are diligently fundraising so camp can be FREE for all campers! If you wish to contribute any amount to your camp fees, we accept donations through Give Butter Families are welcome to contribute on a pay as you can basis, but it is not expected. Sponsoring a camper is roughly $700. Every dollar counts when working to create a space for our LGBTQ+ youth and we appreciate your donation.If you know of any businesses that would be interested in sponsorship, please refer them to us!.

Whether you are seeking to volunteer, become a part of our staff, or camp with us, all applications can be found here. Campers are chosen based on an age-stratefied lottery to provide spots across the ages of 13-17. Alll applicants are notified if they have been selected or are on a wait list. Upon acceptance, a non-refundable $25 registration fee will be due upon acceptance to hold a spot and a virtual intake process including the parent/legal guardian and teen as well as a camp wide virtual orienation are required. The initially lottery opens for a brief period for returning campers and one spot per age group is chosen from this demographic.

Can Dietary Restrictions/Aversions Be Accomodated?
Can Dietary Restrictions/Aversions Be Accomodated?
We can accommodate most dietary restrictions and work with families on sensory issues your teen may have involving food. The camper registration form will ask for details about your child's dietary needs and a camp staffer can discuss those further with guardians as needed.
